OUR CAUSE:
Founded in the year 1969, Boy Scout Troop 371 offers a transformative journey of self-discovery and growth. Within its ranks, Scouts forge lifelong friendships, develop leadership skills, and cultivate a sense of community service. Troop 371 is more than an organization; it’s a sanctuary for young minds to explore in a supportive environment. Through outdoor adventures, merit badges, and leadership, Scouts discover their potential. Guided by the Scout Oath and Law, they embrace responsibility, integrity, and compassion. Joining Troop 371 isn’t just about becoming a Scout; it’s about embarking on a life-changing expedition towards excellence.
OUR TROOP:
Scout Troop 371 meets every Monday from 7pm to 8:30pm, where these young scouts from ages 10 to 17 gather to learn, grow, and lead. Their weekly meetings serve as a foundation for their boy-led Troop. Beyond their indoor meetings, they embrace the great outdoors with adventures: Campouts, Summer Camp, Day-Trips, High adventures, and much more. Troop 371 sets itself apart with boy-led leadership by electing their own youth to lead their patrols and unit. We fund our own outings and projects by selling Christmas trees in our own Christmas Trees sales fundraiser. The Troop also connects to the Communities of Largo, Seminole, and beyond with Eagle projects, clean ups, and food pantries.

Meetings:
The Troop meets weekly every Monday. From 7:00pm to 8:30pm, our Scouts take charge and lead the Troop head-on. Meetings provide a positive environment in which youth can Ideate, Discuss, and make impactful decisions. Meetings also give the opportunity for Scouts to advance through our program. Twice a year, Troop 371 holds an election meeting in which our scouts can elect leaders among themselves to lead the Troop.
Camping:
Once a month for most months, our Troop attends campouts. From Friday evenings to Sunday noon’s, Scouts embrace the wilderness and build on their scout skills including but not limited to: Cooking, First aid, Survival, Swimming, Teamwork and much more. Every year, Troop 371 partakes in a week-long summer camp in which Scouts can enjoy themselves while working on their merit badges.
Service:
Volunteering is a virtue of scouting. We as a Troop both provide and participate in many service opportunities in which we help give back to our communities. Scouts can earn service hours from signed off volunteer work, these signed off hours can be used to earn rank and scholarships. We give back to everyone, regardless of the reward whenever it be Food pantries, Eagle projects, Clean ups, and much more.
Fundraising:
Every year around the Holidays, Boy Scout Troop 371 does their very own Christmas Tree sales as their one and only fundraiser. Located behind the CTK building, Tree sales is entirely staffed by Youth to raise money for everything they do from campouts, and outings, to buying equipment they need on their journey to excellence.
High Adventure:
An experience of a lifetime, High Adventure is a week long journey that completes oneself. Scenic highlights of ones scouting career reserved for ages 14 and up. There are 4 official options for high adventure that include: Sailing the sky blue waters of the keys in SeaBase, Scaling the mountain ranges of Bechtel reserve in Summit, Hiking the rugged trails of New Mexico in Philmont, and Canoeing the wilderness of Minnesota in Northern Tier.
Advancement:
Scouting is a Journey characterized by the seven ranks of Scouting. A scout earns these ranks by signing off requirements. The final rank of Eagle is one that is rarely achieved and highly coveted worldwide as the rank of Eagle is seen in Presidents, Astronauts, and Nobel prize winners.
Boy-led Troop:
Troop 371 is a democratic institution in which our youth elect leadership among their peers. Every 6 months our Scouts vote for individuals they see great potential in. These leaders guide Troop 371 in the journey to excellence while having fun every step of the way. Our Troop organizes Scouts into Patrols, these Patrols operate as teams led by a team leader. These teams work together with the guidance of the executive and other delegated youth figures.
Senior Patrol Leader
Elected every 6 months, the SPL acts as the lead executive of the troop directing meetings, campouts, and other outings.
Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Appointed by the SPL every 6 months, the ASPL acts as the vice executive and is in charge of the cabinet.
Quarter Master
Appointed by the ASPL every 6 months, the Quarter Master is in charge of supplies and equipment that the troop uses.
Patrol Leader
Elected every 6 months, the Patrol Leader is a team leader of their patrol, They lead others by example and keep their patrol in working order.
Troop Guide
Appointed by the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. They Guide younger Scouts in the workings of the Troop.
Chaplain’s Aid
Appointed by the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. They initiate and help religious observances in scouting events.
Den Chief
Appointed by the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. They are the intercessors between the Pack and the Troop as they assist in Pack meetings and Den events.
Scribe
Appointed by the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. They record and keep minutes of youth meetings.
Historian
Appointed by the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. They preserve any pictures or documents that pertains to troop 371.
Bugler
Appointed by the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. They play the Bugle in Scouting events and ceremonies.
Adult Positions:
Although troop 371 is youth led organization, there are adult positions put in place so that troop 371 runs safely and efficiently. The troop committee meets every month on the third Monday in Christ the King Lutheran Church. The committee discusses various topics including: Committee minutes, Service opportunities, Recruitment numbers, Upcoming fundraisers, Summer camp, and much more.
Scoutmaster
A qualified adult leader who is selected and recruited by the Committee. Provides the youth with the training and the tools to run the troop.
Assistant Scoutmaster
Qualified Adult leader. Is assigned specific duties and provide 2-deep leadership.
Committee Member
An Adult volunteer. They are assigned specific roles in the committee including: treasurer, advancement, service, and recruitment.
Troop Committee Chair
A qualified adult leader who is selected and recruited by the Committee. is the head of the Troop committee.
COA
Is the direct contact between the troop and the charter organization. Is also a voting member of the council.
